Rural Residential Planning and Architectural Design Solutions Selection

Features: Since the reform and opening-up, with the development of the agricultural economy and the improvement of farmers' living standards, a large number of rural residential buildings have been constructed. As these rural residences are self-built by farmers, they lack reasonable planning and design. Consequently, the layout is scattered, supporting facilities are inadequate, and the functional division and organization of residential units are poorly planned. The appearance is also relatively simple and rigid. This is not in line with the modernization process of rural areas, and therefore, guidance is needed in the construction of rural residences. Under the commission of the Shanghai Urban Planning Administration, this association collected 10 rural settlement planning design proposals and 28 rural residential unit architectural design proposals from institutions such as Shanghai Tongji Urban Planning and Design Research Institute, Shanghai Urban Planning and Design Research Institute, Shanghai Chengkai Architectural Design Co., Ltd., and Shanghai Zhongfang Architectural Design Co., Ltd. After being reviewed and approved by experts, these proposals were compiled into a book, and with the assistance of Shanghai Tongji Urban Planning and Design Research Institute, edited and published as "Selected Cases of Rural Residential Planning and Architectural Design." The settlement planning design results in the compilation were developed on selected plots, aiming to provide samples for standardizing the planning layout of rural settlements, but they are for reference only. When preparing rural settlement plans for other plots, local terrain conditions and various factors should be taken into account. The residential units in the compilation are divided into three forms: low-rise independent residences, low-rise connected residences, and multi-story unit residences. Each form is further categorized into three types based on area: large, medium, and small. These residential architectural design proposals can be selected for rural construction in suburban areas.
