This book is a compilation of notes from speeches delivered by Mr. Liang Shuming to the students of the Research Department of the Shandong Rural Construction Movement (from the 21st to the 25th year of the Republic of China) during morning meetings. However, it only includes a portion of the notes, not the entirety. This book is not a systematic academic lecture but rather serves as guidance and inspiration for the daily lives of the students or provides immediate answers to questions raised by them. Therefore, its content covers various aspects such as academic pursuits, self-cultivation, as well as life, society, and culture. Much of it is derived from personal experience, heartfelt, and deeply moving, capable of provoking profound reflection. It holds immense value for young people. Unable to let these insights be lost, we have compiled and printed them into this book for fellow enthusiasts.
The titles of each chapter in this book were added later, as the original morning talks did not have titles. The order of the chapters should ideally be based on their original dates, but these have become difficult to verify. For now, they are arranged based on their thematic relevance, without regard to their chronological order.
A portion of the content in this book was previously published in the bimonthly journal Rural Construction. The majority was organized and transcribed by student Huang Shengmin. As for which specific notes were taken by whom, due to the process of mutual copying, it has become impossible to trace.
When this book was published, Mr. Liang was too busy to review it. Any discrepancies or minor inaccuracies that may exist between the notes and his original intentions should be attributed to the responsibility of the note-takers and compilers.
