Features: Having been involved in the world of calligraphy for a full two decades, I have been teaching calligraphy for over ten years. Through both practice and teaching, I have come to realize that composition is a crucial factor in determining the success or failure of a calligraphy work. I often encounter situations where a piece, from its strokes to its structure and ink usage, is impeccable, yet the overall effect leaves one disappointed—either lacking harmony, variation, or mechanical rigidity; appearing slack or carefree; too sparse or empty; or overly crowded and cramped. These issues stem from improper composition. Composition is a constant challenge for beginners. Mr. Yang Zaichun's Compositions in Running and Cursive Calligraphy has provided learners with the key to entering the "art of composition," having been reprinted seven times and warmly received by countless calligraphy enthusiasts. He kindly asked me to elaborate on the composition of regular script calligraphy. Inspired by his encouragement, I have hesitantly taken up my brush. Thus, this Compositions in Regular Script Calligraphy has been published. I hope it can serve as a stepping stone, inviting corrections and questions from senior calligraphers and enthusiasts alike, so that I may correct errors, enrich the content, and improve the book, making it more beloved by readers. My heartfelt gratitude goes to Zheng Huaibao, Cao Xinyuan, Zhang Ping, and Yang Jiaming for carving my seals for me amidst their busy schedules.
