Features: Copying classic calligraphy is a fundamental task for every calligrapher. The first step in copying is to capture the form, then gradually to grasp the spirit. As Dong Qichang once said, "When copying classic calligraphy, it's like suddenly encountering an extraordinary person. You don't need to observe their ears, eyes, hands, feet, or face, but should focus on their demeanor, laughter, and the true spirit that emanates from them." Capturing the form is easier than capturing the spirit, but capturing the spirit does not mean imitating it in a so-called "freehand" style without resembling the original form. This must be emphasized.
Due to the passage of time, beginners find it difficult to grasp the essence of ancient steles and calligraphy at first glance. To address this, we have compiled and published the copies of famous masters, hoping that through their understanding of ancient steles and calligraphy, we can reveal the hidden spirit within them, offering inspiration to all calligraphers.
This series is divided into five volumes: Volume 1: Seal and Clerical Script, Volume 2: Wei Stele Script, Volume 3: Bamboo and Silk Manuscripts, Volume 4: Cursive Script, Volume 5: Regular Script. They will be published in the near future.
