Features: This edition strives to eliminate the constraints imposed on performers by all previous versions, allowing them to interpret and play the Well-Tempered Clavier freely in the Baroque era's musical style. J.S. Bach rarely provided detailed specifications for tempo and dynamics in his works, entrusting these aspects to the performer's understanding and stylistic grasp. Manuscripts of the Well-Tempered Clavier by Bach and several other invaluable copies have been preserved, containing numerous revisions and different interpretations, indicating that within Bach's artistic circle, significant effort was devoted to deeply studying this work. Some of these revisions and interpretations are confidently attributed to Bach himself, while others are from his students and son, also considered as indirectly expressing the composer's intentions. During the editing process, it is often encountered that when no reference or comparison is available, it is difficult to determine which version is better. In such cases, we use small notes to indicate the differences between different versions. Parenthetical markings indicate variations found only in a few copies. Additionally, new research on Bach suggests that a manuscript known as the "Walkerman" is authoritative, and this edition has revised many previous variations based on other sources according to the "Walkerman" version.
