Publish Date: 2005-07-01
Features: The Art of War is not a book that teaches you how to use political, nor does it instruct you in a certain philosophy of life. Instead, it uses concise language to interpret timeless truths and imparts to you an art of self-management, providing a compass to help you become a great person, a perfect person, or even a monarch. Author Baltasar Gracián was a Spanish Jesuit priest filled with wisdom and profound judgment. His classic work The Art of Wisdom conquered readers with 300 concise maxims and aphorisms, which have endured to this day. The Art of War, on the other hand, employs a lighter and different literary form, such as maxims, dialogues, essays, myths, and fables, to give an exhaustive portrayal of all aspects of human nature. This book was dedicated to King Philip IV, who praised it as "the finest of the finest," and it was later translated into several versions. The famous French aphorist La Rochefoucauld was a successor to Gracián's style, while Nietzsche and Schopenhauer were among his most notable admirers.
