The story concludes with Zuyuan marrying Baoyu in Western Hills and having one son and one daughter. Baoyu dies before completing his writings, and Zuyuan raises their children alone until she reaches the age of eighty. Her son passes the imperial examination, and her daughter grows up to become a talented scholar, eventually publishing her father's unfinished manuscripts.
