Features: Go is a battle where pieces fight for survival on the board. In Japan, the rules determine victory based on the amount of territory each side encloses, while in China, the outcome is decided by the number of surviving black and white pieces on the board. In reality, it is the same thing. Absolute, perfect opportunities do not visit often, and even when they do, they are like arrows released from a bow—it is hard to grasp and achieve victory. Conversely, fruitless haste only leads to unfavorable situations, and such examples are countless. To see this clearly and understand the principles of urgency and restraint is the key. To improve one's "eyes" and "breath," apart from diligently studying and reflecting on numerous games, there is no other path. Despite it being a cliché, I still say so. The examples of urgency and restraint, as well as advances and retreats in this book, are taken from actual game situations of professional players. If readers, while reading this book, unintentionally think, "There is such a move," or "There is also such an idea," that is what the author hopes for. Global judgment is more important than local means—this is self-evident. It is hoped that readers will step out of the local and look at the whole, savoring the subtleties within.
