Features: English vocabulary learning mainly focuses on the memorization and differentiation of word meanings, as well as the collocations and usage of words. Broadly speaking, it can be divided into the following categories:
1. Synonym and Near-Synonym Differentiation. The distinction between words primarily involves differentiating synonyms or near-synonyms in terms of meaning and usage. This is an important aspect of vocabulary learning. The assessment of this ability often involves providing four words with the same part of speech, identical or similar meanings, and asking students to choose the correct answer. The purpose of the test is to evaluate students' ability to distinguish word meanings and use vocabulary.
2. Near-Form Word Differentiation. In English vocabulary, some words are spelled very similarly but have different meanings or parts of speech. One important pattern in English exams is to use near-form words to confuse students and make them choose the correct answer. The goal is to test students' ability to distinguish word forms and use vocabulary.
3. Phrase and Idiomatic Usage Differentiation.
(1) Verb Phrase Collocations. English verb phrases are one of the difficulties in English, as they are habitual combinations formed by patterns such as verb + adverb + verb + preposition + verb + adverb + preposition, each with its own unique meaning.
(2) Idiomatic Usage Questions. English idioms have specific, conventional structural forms.
