A 20-Year Selection of Masterpieces from Juvenile Literature
Green Apple, Red Apple: Expressing the joys and sorrows of growing up. This three-volume novel collection is selected from the outstanding works published in this magazine over the past two decades, reflecting the overall standard of its fiction column. It can also be seen as a side view of short story creation in contemporary Chinese children's literature and a general trend in the writing of novels about the realities of young people. Especially in the 1990s, children's literature creation in China entered a new period of prosperity, with numerous masterpieces and a steady stream of new talents. The achievements in middle and short fiction were particularly remarkable. Thanks to the love and support of many children's literature authors, this magazine has always received the most satisfactory works from writers across the country. This not only ensures the quality of the submissions but also provides a rich foundation for selecting works for this collection.
Juvenile Literature has always adhered to a pure literary taste to guide readers while respecting the aesthetic preferences and reading choices of young readers. The annual Juvenile Literature Good Works Award is entirely decided by democratic voting among young readers, and many of the works in this collection are recognized as good works by readers themselves. Using the terminology of the film industry, it is like winning both the Golden Rooster Award and the Hundred Flowers Award.
The development of children's literature requires passing the torch and nurturing new literary talents. Actively supporting their creations has always been a tradition of Juvenile Literature. Therefore, in this collection, readers will appreciate many outstanding works by emerging children's literature writers.
In terms of content, the three volumes are roughly divided by theme, reflecting various aspects of the lives of contemporary young people. If conditions permit in the future, we will continue to compile selections of other genres, as well as the best works from the magazine's bimonthly supplement, Frontline of Reading.
The works collected in this volume, though only about 30 in number, cover a wide range of themes. In terms of time, the stories and lives depicted range from ancient eras to the present moment. In terms of space, they span all directions—north, south, east, and west, from the earth to the heavens. There are quiet rural lives, bustling urban lives, and even frontier lives with exotic flavors. This is something no individual collection can achieve. Only in a selection of numerous works can we see such diversity.
Every work in this collection reflects the authors' profound and thoughtful writing stance.
