Now, this Bookworm has crossed the seas and landed gracefully in the hands of Chinese English learners. The Bookworm will first give you a letter, even if you currently have only a few hundred words, allowing you to read world-class works without much difficulty. The Bookworm will also remind you with its delicate chirping: to persevere in reading, to read widely and richly. By the time you finish the last book in the series, you may suddenly realize that you have transformed like a cocoon turning into a butterfly, ready to take flight!
Two hundred years ago, life at sea was very difficult. People had to eat hard bread, spoiled meat; they had to work day and night, often in cold, damp, and hungry conditions; they might not see land for months; they frequently encountered dangerous storms, with frequent accidents; some ships never returned. In 1787, the "HMS Bounty" left England, sailing halfway around the world to the South Pacific island of Tahiti. The captain of the ship was William Bligh, and the first mate was Fletcher Christian. The Bounty was not a happy place—Bligh had a harsh demeanor, and his officers and crew did not like him. They were both angry and afraid—worried about spending even longer at sea. It would take a year to return to England and spend a year with Captain Bligh. They began to secretly discuss why not stay in Tahiti? Here was a blue sky, friendly people. Why did we need a captain? Why not let Captain Bligh take a lifeboat back to England? But the punishment for mutiny was death.
