"Newly Compiled College German" is divided into four volumes, each with a student book and a teacher book. The main texts, listening comprehension, and unit vocabulary are accompanied by audio cassettes. Each volume contains ten units, with each unit focusing on a theme to provide training in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation, aiming to develop students' comprehensive language skills. Since the development of language skills is inseparable and mutually complementary, the comprehensive application of language skills is also required in real language environments. In comparison, Volume 1 and Volume 2 focus more on listening and speaking training and oral communicative activities, while also covering basic grammar. Volumes 3 and 4 continue to strengthen listening and speaking training while gradually increasing reading volume to further improve reading, writing, and written communicative skills. Volume 4 consists of ten units, each unit comprising an introduction, main text, exercises (text exercises before grammar exercises), communicative intent, listening, reading, grammar summary, and unit vocabulary. Each unit requires approximately six hours of study, with the remaining time available for review and exams, or can be adjusted according to specific teaching needs. For the convenience of teaching, the main features of the fourth volume of this textbook are described as follows: 1. Following the principle of each unit focusing on a theme, the best language samples related to German-speaking countries and society are selected. The texts are fresh, diverse in, varied in style, practical, and rich in contemporary. 2. To help students move away from rote memorization and improve language application skills in a relaxed and enjoyable way, various forms of communicative exercises are designed to be context-based, easy to practice, and concise. These exercises enable students to naturally acquire and use the learned language knowledge through repeated practice in a given context, achieving learning through communication and communication through learning, thereby enhancing learning efficiency. 3. Each unit focuses on training one communicative intent, aiming to help students master common conversational materials in specific communicative contexts. 4. Grammar is naturally integrated into each theme and serves each theme. Grammar exercises emphasize fun, practicality, and diversity. Grammar summaries are tabularized, concise, and easy to find, providing guidance for students' self-study. 5. Each unit's illustrations and photographs are designed with teaching purposes in mind, helping students better understand the situation in German-speaking countries and also aiding in text comprehension and exercise completion. 6. Emphasis is placed on cross-cultural communication and cultural knowledge, enabling students to deepen their understanding of the cultural background of German-speaking countries while mastering language knowledge, thus fostering cross-cultural communicative competence. 7. To meet the needs of the information age, each unit provides relevant websites related to the theme, allowing students to access more information, broaden their perspectives, expand their vocabulary, and enrich their language materials. This integrates traditional language teaching with modern multimedia methods. 8. Each unit's vocabulary list includes example sentences after every word, helping students better understand the meaning of the words and master their usage through examples.
