Features: This is a newly discovered Hemingway manuscript, originally published in July 1999 on the 100th anniversary of the renowned writer's birth. The book depicts Hemingway's experience of hunting in Africa from 1953 to 1954, his second trip (accompanied by his fourth wife, Mary Welsh). The couple, along with several local people who followed them as assistants, tracked down a notorious and fierce lion. Along the way, they also hunted animals such as gazelles, leopards, and sandgrouse, reflecting the author's admiration for the innocence and loyalty of the African natives, as well as Mary's active attitude in learning to shoot and building courage, and the joyful atmosphere of their life together during this period. The book also mentions Hemingway's girlfriend in the local area, a girl named Deb, whom Mary even called the "engagement" of her husband. The girl got along very well with Hemingway, but it did not affect the relationship between the couple, showing a valuable spirit of mutual understanding and consideration between people. Even while on the hunting trip, Hemingway did not forget to talk about writing. That line, "A novelist is just a storyteller who was born to lie," may seem absurd, but it humorously captures the objective laws of literary creation.
