Literature and Modernity (Volume 14 of Peking University Academic Lectures Series)

Author: (French) Yves
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2005-03-01
Features: The author's clear theoretical thinking and broad academic vision are integrated, and his passion for academia is calmly blended into dialectical language expression. The author claims that postmodernism is not merely a betrayal of tradition but also attempts to construct something new. From the perspective of perspectivism and relativism, postmodernism shows us that the theories provided are merely partial views of objects, and "whether affirmative or negative theorists, their theories are reflections of the development of contemporary capitalism." The two authors also keenly point out that negative postmodern discourse reflects people's pessimistic attitude towards the development trajectory of the modern world; the extension of this sentiment, reflected in theory, is the rise of nihilistic discourse. The content of this book is based on a series of lectures the author gave at Peking University. This visit to Beijing for lectures was arranged under the auspices of Jacques Neefs at Paris 8 University and was conducted at the invitation of Professor Meng Hua of the School of Comparative Literature and Comparative Culture at Peking University. The content of this book is directly related to the research conducted at the Center for Literary Modernity, which the authors founded over ten years ago at the third university.
