Features: China is a large developing country, and the regional gap is currently very significant. Although the level of modernization varies across different regions, each region's modernization is very important and is an essential component of national modernization. The 2004 China Modernization Report proposes an evaluation system for the modernization levels of countries and regions, forming the World and National Modernization Indices, including the Degree of Secondary Modernization Achievement, the Second Modernization Index, and the Comprehensive Modernization Level Index. It analyzes the modernization indices of 131 countries worldwide in 2001 and 34 regions in China in 2002. The publication of this book is of reference significance for regional governments and academia in formulating regional modernization strategies. This book is themed around regional modernization, divided into two parts. The first part is the thematic report, which analyzes the facts, patterns, and paths of regional modernization. It conducts periodic quantitative analysis and empirical of the historical facts of regionalization in 18 countries and regions worldwide, drawing on theoretical achievements from relevant fields, and preliminarily constructs the "theory of regional modernization," proposing strategic goals and measures for China's regional modernization. The second part is the evaluation report, which analyzes the World and Chinese Modernization Indices. It summarizes and proposes the evaluation system for the modernization levels of countries and regions, completes the analysis of the modernization indices of 131 countries worldwide and 34 regions in China, and provides a wealth of data and information for scientific research and strategic decision-making. This book reflects the current research progress of the China Modernization Strategy Research Group. As the research work deepens, the group will continue to refine and improve the research results. Science is constantly evolving. The understanding of objective laws is a long process, not an overnight achievement. We hope that the group's perspectives will attract attention and discussion from everyone.
