Features: Li Kan, a renowned Chinese historian and publisher. Li Kan joined Zhonghua Book Company in July 1958 and began studying and researching modern Chinese history at the same time. He made full use of his "leisure" time to systematically read a large amount of historical materials and paid close attention to various works, papers, and academic trends related to modern Chinese history. By the 1990s, he had published over 100 articles in domestic newspapers and magazines. This collection is a selection of 44 academic articles from his published works, compiled during his later years when suffering from illness. These articles, chronologically speaking, cover topics from the Opium War to the War of Resistance against Japan. In terms of content, they focus more on politics and cultural thought, but also include some discussions on historical figures and short essays on historiography. In some of the articles, he expressed his own views on controversial issues.
