Features: After the birth of the new comic strip format in the United States in 1895, a comic strip fever swept across the world. This global comic strip fever began to spread to China in the 1920s. By the early 1930s, Shanghai had already seen the publication of selected foreign comic strip collections, followed by several periodicals dedicated to reprinting foreign comic strips. For example, in 1934, the renowned Chinese cartoonist Zhang Guangyu selected and compiled the classic Swedish comic strip Adamson by cartoonist Oscar Jacobson into a 100-sheet collection (translated as Andeson at the time). In the mid-1930s, periodicals such as Humor Weekly and World Comics began to appear in Shanghai, specializing in publishing foreign comic strips. Upon their introduction, foreign comic strips immediately captured the great interest of Chinese readers, and various periodicals rushed to reprint them. Among them, Western Wind Monthly, founded in 1936, was particularly representative. Each issue of the magazine reprinted one or two outstanding Western comic strips, leaving a deep impression on readers. This comic strip collection compiles foreign comic strips reprinted from some old magazines in the 1930s and 1940s. These works possess high artistic quality and reflect the distinctive characteristics of foreign comic strips at that time, offering readers a rich and beneficial spiritual enjoyment.
