Features: [Jieziyuan Painting Manual] is a textbook for beginners learning Chinese painting techniques, where one can learn basic skills such as brushwork, shaping, and composition. Through this gateway, one can initially appreciate the fine traditions of ancient techniques. Today's reprint of [Jieziyuan Painting Manual] is not meant to force us to imitate its model blindly, but rather to use it as a guide to learn brushwork and shaping techniques, followed by sketching from life, and then creating based on real-life experiences. It should be emphasized that the most important aspect of creating is to learn from nature and draw inspiration from real life. Copying and referencing the techniques of ancient masters is merely a starting point. Only by initially mastering traditional techniques, coupled with skills in sketching and a deep understanding of life, can one create dynamic and lively works that reflect socialism and embody a national style of realism. For beginners practicing brushwork, shaping, and composition, [Jieziyuan Painting Manual] can serve as a reference. [Jieziyuan Painting Manual] was compiled and illustrated during the early Qing Dynasty, when the artistic style of that era emphasized copying and imitating the ancients. Therefore, this book only introduces the brushwork, shaping, and composition techniques of predecessors, but it fails to discuss how to apply these techniques for sketching from life, which is a major drawback. In summary, [Jieziyuan Painting Manual] has a long history, and its preface, postscript, or other textual descriptions have not been altered.
