Features: The book presented to the readers, China: Facing the "New Economy" in the Internet Age, is the research outcome of an institute-level project undertaken by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The book is structured into fourteen chapters, organized as follows: Chapter 1 primarily discusses general issues of the "New Economy" in the Internet Age, such as its concept, characteristics, and impacts. Subsequently, three chapters delve into the fundamental background for the emergence and development of the "New Economy," with Chapter 2 focusing on economic globalization, while Chapters 3 and 4 examine the development of informatization at the international and domestic levels, respectively. The following four chapters explore the development of the "New Economy" itself from various perspectives, including the Internet, the Internet industry cluster, e-commerce based on the Internet, and the application of information network technologies in traditional industries. Chapters 9 to 12 focus on the key elements that influence or determine the development of the "New Economy," such as technology, capital, regulation, and innovation. Chapter 13 specifically investigates the issue of the "digital divide" brought about by informatization and the development of the "New Economy." Chapter 14, after introducing the latest developments in the "New Economy" abroad, discusses how China can respond to the challenges posed by the "New Economy" and proposes several policy recommendations. The above structural arrangement of the book, to some extent, reflects our analytical framework and research methodology for studying the phenomenon of the "New Economy." We place the study of the "New Economy" on the foundation of economic globalization and informatization, following the threads of the Internet revolution, emerging Internet industry clusters, e-commerce, and its penetration and widespread application in traditional industries. In the analysis of domestic and international interactions, we discuss a series of important factors that determine the development of the "New Economy," address the problems arising from its development, and present our perspectives and recommendations.
