After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Dr. Norman Bethune, a Canadian Communist Party member, came to China and arrived in Yan'an. He soon moved to the Jin-Cha-Oi Border Region to work. Under extremely harsh conditions, he risked his own safety, full of enthusiasm, to serve the Chinese anti-Japanese armed forces and trained a large number of medical personnel, making outstanding contributions to the liberation cause of the Chinese people. He died of poisoning from treating wounded soldiers on November 12, 1939, in Tang County, Hebei.
