Book Description:
The purpose of education in our country is to develop learners' moral, intellectual, and physical qualities, enabling them to become talents for socialist construction with ideals, morals, culture, and discipline. The assessment of students' academic performance, the evaluation of school education quality, and the recruitment of personnel by various sectors of society should all implement comprehensive assessment of moral, intellectual, and physical qualities. However, to make these assessment tasks scientific, a set of scientific methods is required. Especially with the deepening of educational system reforms, educational management must be scientific, educational evaluation will be widely conducted, and research on education must be both qualitative and quantitative. The existing assessment systems must be further improved—all of these rely on the knowledge of educational measurement.
Educational measurement is a science that studies how to measure students' academic performance, learning abilities, interests and hobbies, moral character, and the effectiveness of various educational measures. It is an important tool for improving teaching, implementing scientific educational management, and conducting educational research. Currently, there are few books on educational measurement in China. Although some universities have offered courses in this field, they lack corresponding textbooks. Therefore, we were commissioned by the State Education Commission to compile this book on educational measurement.
This textbook is divided into four parts and thirteen chapters. Part One discusses the basic principles of measurement; Part Two introduces the general steps and methods of measurement; Part Three elaborates on various types of educational tests; and Part Four studies the statistical processing of measurement results. The purpose is to enable students to systematically and comprehensively grasp the basic theories and methods of educational measurement. In the writing process, we strive to combine theory with practice, ensuring that the content is concise, accurate, systematic, and complete, making it suitable for teaching purposes.
