Science endows wisdom and keenness, while history offers depth and broadness. Exploring the laws of historical development and grasping its context and trajectory is precisely laying the foundation for exploring the future. As educators who have long been committed to teaching and researching the history of foreign education, we deeply understand this. Therefore, with a focus on the in-depth development of contemporary educational theory research in China and the needs of educational practice, we have compiled this "A Concise History of Foreign Education."
The term "concise" reflects our initial intention in compiling this textbook and also our strive to achieve this goal. The history of foreign education spans a long period, covers a vast geographical area, and involves numerous figures, making the compilation of a suitable textbook extremely challenging. Through years of teaching practice, we have come to realize that "concise" textbooks are more suitable for undergraduate students than multi-volume works. Considering this situation, while also catering to the needs of graduate and vocational students, we have compiled this book. In terms of content, the book strives to achieve a balance between "conciseness" and "clarity," neither omitting essential historical facts nor presenting lengthy and complex materials. Additionally, it integrates historical analysis with theoretical discussion, providing objective, comprehensive, and dialectical evaluations of historical facts under the guidance of the basic principles of Marxism.
