Features: The New Japanese-Chinese Dictionary presented to the readers is a large-scale reference book developed based on these two principles. The greatest features of this dictionary are speed and comprehensiveness.
The speed feature refers to its convenience for Chinese users to look up words. When encountering words written in Kana, they can be searched using the Kana. When encountering words written in Chinese characters, they can be directly searched using Pinyin. Those unfamiliar with Pinyin can also use stroke order to look up words. Any of these methods can quickly find the desired word, which is the first aspect.
Regarding set phrases (), which often pose difficulties in reading, we have changed the approach of previous dictionaries and listed them as entries. Readers can directly find set phrases in the main text without worrying about whether they are included in any specific entry, which is the second aspect.
For Chinese characters that can form words (), we provide interpretations with appropriate detail, allowing readers to infer their meanings even for words not included in the dictionary. The ease of retrieving Chinese character words will enhance the speed of lookup, which is the third aspect.
The concept of comprehensiveness encompasses several layers. First, it combines language dictionaries with science and technology glossaries. This dictionary includes ordinary vocabulary, such as approximately 30,000 frequently used words in daily life and study, as well as stable vocabulary in social sciences, self-improvement, and engineering technology, totaling about 90,000 entries. It meets the needs for reading and translating general publications.
Second, it integrates disciplines from social sciences and natural sciences. With social progress, interdisciplinary fields are increasingly growing, and a comprehensive reference book that covers all types of terms is essential to adapt to this trend.
Third, it combines basic vocabulary with new words. Neglecting the former is unfavorable for beginners and understanding Japanese sentence meaning, while neglecting the latter fails to keep up with the needs of technological development. Modern dictionaries should balance both, but prioritize foundational and stable vocabulary.
Fourth, it integrates grammar and vocabulary. Most grammatical issues encountered in reading and translation can be resolved using this dictionary.
