The Old Man and the Sea

Features: Old fisherman Santiago finally catches a big marlin after eighty-four days without a catch. However, the fish is so large that it drags his small boat across the sea for three days until he is exhausted and kills it, tying it to one side of the boat. On the way back, he repeatedly encounters attacks from sharks, and by the time he returns to port, only the head, tail, and a backbone of the fish remain. Hemingway said, "I tried to write about a real old man, a real child, a real sea, a real fish, and many real sharks. But if I can write it down vividly enough, they can also represent many other things."
