Features: The China Society of Law has conducted four nationwide selections of "Top Ten Outstanding (Young and Middle-aged) Jurists of China" since 1995, 1999, 2002, and 2004, which have had a significant impact on the legal community and have made important contributions to flourishing legal research, mobilizing legal scholars to engage in theoretical and innovative research, and advancing the rule of law. In October 2004, the China Society of Law selected the fourth "Top Ten Outstanding Young Jurists of China," and Professor Qiu Xinglong and Professor Lu Jianping, recommended by the Criminal Law Research Society of the China Society of Law, were honored with this title. Since 1995, when the China Society of Law began selecting outstanding (young and middle-aged) jurists, a group of talented and knowledgeable young legal scholars have emerged and have become a backbone force in the development of China's legal industry. To date, six young and middle-aged scholars in the field of criminal law have been honored with this title: Professor Zhao Bingzhi (1995, first edition, 39 years old at the time), Professor Chen Xingliang (1999, second edition, 42 years old at the time), Professor Zhang Mingkai (2002, third edition, 43 years old at the time), Professor Wu Dahuai (2002, third edition, 39 years old at the time), Professor Qiu Xinglong (2004, fourth edition, 41 years old at the time), and Professor Lu Jianping (2004, fourth edition, 41 years old at the time). These six (young and middle-aged) jurists were basically recommended and approved by the Criminal Law Research Society of the China Society of Law. At the same time, they are all full-time professors, visiting professors, or expert committee members of the Criminal Law Research Center of Renmin University of China, a key research base. Among them, four have obtained doctorates in criminal law from Renmin University of China.
To fully showcase the talents of young and middle-aged criminal law scholars and promote human rights protection research in the field of criminal law, after careful consideration and with the approval and support of the China Society of Law, the Criminal Law Research Center of Renmin University of China, a key research base, and the Criminal Law Research Society of the China Society of Law jointly organized the "Forum on Contemporary Criminal Law and Human Rights Protection — National Outstanding Young Criminal Law Scholars" on January 15, 2005, at Renmin University of China. The event invited criminal law scholars from previous editions who had been honored with the title of "Top Ten Outstanding (Young and Middle-aged) Jurists of China" to serve as keynote speakers, and also invited senior criminal law scholars to provide live comments.
The research scope of this book covers Chinese criminal law, foreign criminal law, comparative criminal law, regional criminal law, international criminal law, and other directions. It mainly establishes columns such as "Hot Topics Discussion," "Academic Debates," "Special Forums," "Criminal Law Dialogue," "Judicial Practice," "International Criminal Law," "Foreign Rule of Law," "Criminal Law Scholars," and "News and Information." The articles published in this book are required to closely align with key, difficult, controversial, and hot issues in criminal theory and the practice of the rule of law. They should be targeted, well-argued, and clearly explained, avoiding empty rhetoric and literary gimmicks. In terms of length, both concise and insightful short essays and substantial, in-depth longer papers are welcome.
