During his lifetime, Lu Xun published only one self-selected collection—Selected Works of Lu Xun. It was published by Shanghai Tianma Publishing House in March 1933. Although it was repeatedly banned by the Guomindang authorities afterward, it was still printed seven times by 1942, demonstrating the enduring charm of Lu Xun’s works. As Lu Xun’s only self-selected collection, it reflects his own evaluation and selection criteria for his works. At the same time, he compiled the collection based on different materials and writing styles, fully showcasing his achievements in literary creation. The selected 22 works come from five of his major collections: Wild Grass, , The Wandering, Evening Thoughts on Morning Flowers, and New Stories of Ancient Times. They include well-known pieces such as Qiu Jili, The True Story of Ah Q, The Disillusionment of Love, Running to the Moon, and The Cat.
