This book is a crystallization of modern urology theory and practice, innovatively developed and summarized by senior urologists in Shanghai's urology field, as well as experts and instructors from the National Urology Training Course over nearly 30 years of teaching. It is written by 29 renowned urology professors and experts, including Ma Yongjiang, Jiang Yu, and Zhang Yuanfang. The book comprises 42 chapters, comprehensively covering the fundamental theories of modern urology, summarizing decades of clinical experience from medical experts of various generations in Shanghai's urology field, and integrating the latest international advancements in urology. It embodies the life's work and essence of their research, teaching, and clinical expertise. Therefore, it serves as both a textbook for the National Urology Training Course and an indispensable reference and essential reading for urology professionals at all levels.
Since the establishment of the National Urology Training Course in Shanghai in 1976, officially approved by the Ministry of Health, under the direct guidance of the Medical Education Department of Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau, senior urologists such as Xiong Rucheng, Ma Yongjiang, He Shangzhi, Cao Yufeng, Meng Hui, Wang Yijing, Shen Jiali, and Xie Tong, as well as living legends like Cheng Yixiong, Jiang Yu, An Siyuan, Zhou Yongchang, Jiang Hemin, Zhang Ren'an, Miao Tingjie, He Zongli, and Zheng Chongda, have devoted themselves to cultivating talent for China with great passion and selfless dedication. They strived for technical excellence and academic perseverance, tirelessly advising the collaborative group of 12 comprehensive teaching hospitals in Shanghai and pouring their hearts into training top-tier urology professionals. Under the mentorship of these seasoned experts, Shanghai's urology community has formed a cohesive teaching team of all generations, working diligently and collaboratively to ensure the smooth operation of the training course's lectures and surgical demonstrations, thereby nurturing numerous academic leaders and technical in urology across the nation and contributing significantly to the rapid development of urology in China. Here, I extend my highest respect and heartfelt gratitude to the senior urologists and contributors of this book.
During the teaching of the training course and the compilation of this book, the leadership of Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau and the departments of Xinhua Hospital provided strong support and care. Ye Min, male, native of Shanghai. Professor and Chief Physician, Department of Urology, The Affiliated Xinhua Hospital of Shanghai Second Medical University, and Graduate Supervisor. Graduated from the Medical Department of Shanghai Second Medical University in 1972. From 1989 to 1994, he served as a senior visiting scholar and postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Nephrology and Urology, Kansas University Medical Center, focusing on polycystic kidney disease and urogenital tumors. Since May 1997, he has been the director of the National Urology Training Course in Shanghai. He also serves as an editorial board member or standing editor for journals such as Zhonghua Urology, Zhonghua Surgery, and Zhonghua General Medical Sciences. In 1987, he won the Second Prize of the National Education Commission's Science and Technology Progress Award and the First Medical Silver Snake Award in Shanghai in 1989. He has published over 100 papers and participated in the compilation of 10 books.
Zhang Yuanfang, male, native of Shanghai. Professor and Chief Physician, Department of Urology, The Affiliated Huashan Hospital of Fudan University, and Doctoral Supervisor. Graduated from the Medical Department of Shanghai Medical College (now Fudan University Medical College) in 1963. He completed over four years of advanced studies in urology, kidney transplantation, and molecular biology at Belgrade University in Yugoslavia and at a state university in the United States. Currently, he serves as the Director of the Urology Institute of Fudan University, Vice Chairman of the Urology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, Standing Committee Member of the Laser Medicine Branch, Committee Member of the Andrology Branch, Committee Member of the Organ Transplantation Branch, Director of the Urology Society of Shanghai Medical Association, Vice Director of the Surgery Society, Vice Director of the Andrology Society, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Laser Society, and Director of the Medical and Engineering Committee. He also serves as a deputy editor for Zhonghua Urology and Modern Urology, as well as an editorial board member for Zhonghua Medical Journal, Zhonghua Surgery, Zhonghua Laser Medicine, Reproductive and Contraception, and Shanghai Medical Journal. In 1987, he won the First Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and the Third Prize of Shanghai's Outstanding Invention Award in 2000. He has published over 160 papers, edited 7 books, and participated in the compilation of 12 books.
