Features: After reading an article or a book, writing down the feelings, insights, and lessons learned is called a "reading reflection." The basic structure of a reading reflection is as follows:
1. Briefly summarize the relevant content of the original text. For example, mention the title of the book or article, the author, the writing period, and a concise overview of the book or article. This part is written to explain the source of the reflections and to lay the groundwork for the subsequent discussion. It must emphasize brevity and should not include lengthy descriptions of the book or article's specific content. Instead, focus on summarizing parts directly related to the reflections while omitting irrelevant details.
2. State the main point clearly. Choose the most impactful insight and express it in a concise sentence. This sentence can be called a "thesis statement." The thesis statement represents the central argument of the reflection. The position of the thesis statement in the text can be flexible—it can appear at the beginning, end, or middle. Beginners are advised to use an upfront approach, stating the thesis at the beginning.
3. Elaborate on the main point by presenting facts and reasoning. This section is the body of the argumentative essay, where the main point (or central argument) is elaborated. By presenting facts and reasoning, the correctness of the argument is demonstrated, making it more prominent and persuasive. It is important to note that all facts and reasoning must revolve around the main point and serve to support it.
4. Relate the main point to real-life situations. A good reading reflection should have a contemporary touch and genuine emotions. To achieve this, one must be adept at connecting to real-life situations. This "reality" can be personal thoughts, actions, or experiences, or it can be a social phenomenon. When connecting to reality, it is essential to stay focused on the main point and ensure that the connection serves the argument, avoiding haphazard or disconnected associations.
The above four points outline the basic structure of a reading reflection, but this structure is not rigid and should be adapted flexibly.
