Features: Language is an important means of communication and an essential part of human culture. Language proficiency is the foundation for learning other subjects. Through language learning, students can develop a love for their mother tongue, guide them to understand and use their mother tongue correctly, enrich their language accumulation, cultivate language awareness, develop thinking, improve their moral cultivation and aesthetic taste, and gradually form good personalities and sound personalities. The above discussion fully illustrates the importance of language learning. However, language seems easy to learn, but truly mastering it is not easy. This is because language learning is highly practical, and the main way to develop language skills should also be through language practice. Whether it is literacy and writing, oral communication, reading, or writing, repeated practice and reflection under scientific guidance are necessary to acquire these skills. Of course, learning should be scientific, and practice should be effective—not just "battling through a sea of exercises" to achieve results.
The compilers of this book have been engaged in primary school language teaching for decades and are deeply aware that one of the difficulties students face in learning language is reading and answering questions related to short passages provided outside the curriculum, covering different levels of words, phrases, sentences, and passages. The reasons for this are mainly two: first, primary school students are young, have limited knowledge accumulation, and lack sufficient comprehension ability, coupled with limited written summarization and expression skills, often failing to meet the requirements; second, some students have poor reading habits and cannot focus to understand the text or think about the questions, just skimming through the passage like a dragonfly touching the water before answering. Sometimes, they may not even understand the questions before writing down their answers, making accuracy highly questionable. Primary school students often fail to correctly attribute the cause of their difficulties, mistakenly thinking that "reading short passages is the hardest," fearing reading exercises and language exams, and even affecting their interest and enthusiasm for language learning.
To address this, we have selected and compiled this series of "Step-by-Step Reading Training for Primary School Language," which consists of 6 volumes, including approximately 400 passages (including excerpts). The content is diverse, covering topics from ancient to modern times, from China to foreign countries; there are poems, fables, fairy tales, and stories; there are celebrations of revolutionary leaders, scientists, and exemplary figures, as well as praise for ordinary laborers; there are passages about people, objects, events, science, scenery, and using objects to express emotions—all carefully selected, paying attention to their ideological, literary, scientific, and humanistic qualities. We believe that reading these passages will not only broaden primary school students' knowledge in various areas but also help them absorb the wisdom of their national culture, develop their thinking abilities, be nurtured by noble sentiments and tastes, enrich their spiritual world, and foster their individuality.
Additionally, we have provided detailed answers for each selected passage to facilitate self-study by students or guidance by parents and teachers. Of course, due to the of language learning, it is important to respect each person's unique experience in the learning process. Therefore, some answers are not the only correct ones—as long as they are well-supported and logical, they are acceptable. Answers should not be rigid.
