Features: Language is an important means of communication and an essential part of human culture. Language proficiency is the foundation for learning other subjects. Through language learning, students can develop a love for their mother tongue, guide them to understand and use their mother tongue correctly, enrich their language accumulation, cultivate language awareness, develop thinking skills, enhance their moral cultivation and aesthetic interests, and gradually form good personalities and sound character. The above discussion fully illustrates the importance of language learning. However, language may seem easy to learn, but mastering it is not easy. This is because language learning is highly practical, and the main way to develop language skills should also be through language practice. Whether it is learning to read and write, oral communication, reading, or writing, repeated practice and reflection under scientific guidance are necessary to acquire these skills. Of course, learning should be scientific and practice should be effective—simply "battling through a sea of exercises" is not effective. The compilers of this book have been engaged in primary school language teaching for decades and are deeply aware that one of the difficulties students face in learning language is reading and answering questions related to short passages provided outside the curriculum, such as those on characters, words, sentences, and passages. The reasons for this are mainly two: first, primary school students are young, have accumulated little knowledge, and lack sufficient comprehension ability. Additionally, their limited ability to summarize and express in writing often makes it difficult for them to meet the requirements. Second, some students have poor reading habits and cannot sit down to read and think about the text. They may skim through the passage like a dragonfly tapping water before answering questions, sometimes even not fully understanding the questions before writing their answers, making accuracy highly questionable. Primary school students often fail to correctly attribute the cause of their difficulties, mistakenly believing that "reading short passages is the hardest," leading them to fear reading exercises and language exams, and even affecting their interest and motivation to study language in depth. To address this, we have compiled this series of "Primary School Language Step-by-Step Reading Training" books, which consists of 6 volumes and includes approximately 400 passages (including excerpts). The content is very diverse, covering topics from ancient times to the present, from China to foreign countries; there are poems, fables, fairy tales, and stories; there are celebrations of revolutionary leaders, scientists, and exemplary figures, as well as praise for ordinary laborers; there are passages about people, objects, events, science, scenery, and using objects to express emotions. All the passages are carefully selected, paying attention to their ideological, literary, scientific, and humanistic qualities. We believe that reading these passages will not only help primary school students broaden their knowledge but also benefit them in absorbing the wisdom of their national culture, developing their thinking skills, being nurtured by noble sentiments and interests, enriching their spiritual world, and fostering their individuality. Additionally, we have provided detailed answers for each selected passage to facilitate self-study by students or guidance by parents and teachers. Of course, due to the of language learning, it is important to respect each person's unique experience in the learning process. Therefore, some answers are not the only correct ones; as long as they are well-supported and logical, they are acceptable. Answers should not be rigid.
