Features: The series of unit tests for College English (Revised Edition) (Volumes 1-4) is designed as supplementary material for College English (Revised Edition) (Volumes 1-4) published by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. According to the unit distribution in College English (Revised Edition) (Volumes 1-4), this series of tests is also divided into four volumes. Each volume consists of ten sets of tests. Each set of tests consists of six sections, with a total score of 100 points. The questions cover both intensive and extensive reading texts from each unit. Each set of tests includes both objective questions and subjective questions that assess students' practical skills; there are also vocabulary structure questions designed around language points and comprehension questions designed around the texts. In each set of tests, which consists of six sections, the following four types of questions are included:
English-Chinese Translation: This section has 5 sub-questions. The first two sub-questions are English-to-Chinese translations (selected from the intensive reading texts), and the last three are Chinese-to-English translations. The sentences tested contain key sentence patterns or important vocabulary learned in the unit.
True or False Judgment: This section has 10 sub-questions. All questions are designed based on the extensive reading texts of each unit, covering the content of all extensive reading texts in the unit.
Short Answer Questions: This section consists of two sub-questions. Each sub-question is a short-answer question. The first question is designed around the intensive reading text, and the second question is designed around one of the extensive reading texts in the unit.
Multiple Choice Questions or Synonym Choice Questions: This section has 10 sub-questions. It tests both grammatical structures and vocabulary mastery, with questions that may cover both intensive and extensive reading texts as well as after-class exercises.
In recent years, various versions of College English learning guides have emerged, and "learning guides" naturally include after-class exercise guides (with reference answers). Although "learning guides" have played a certain role in students' learning, teachers cannot truly assess the effectiveness of their learning. To address these shortcomings, we invited experienced teachers from the College English Teaching Department of Wuhan University's School of Foreign Languages to co-author this series of unit tests. This test covers the key and difficult points of the unit and is bound in a loose-leaf format. Through in-class distribution and exercises, it not only provides teachers with an effective basis for assessing teaching effectiveness but also helps students target their mastery of the key and difficult points of the textbook. This will lay a solid foundation in language and knowledge for them to take the National College English Test Band 4 (CET-4) after completing the four volumes of the textbook. This is the original intention behind compiling this series of tests.
