Features: Realism predominantly depicts the hardships of working-class and peasant communities, serving as a rational critique of the convergence of feudal consciousness and capitalist politics. As a result, it faced hostility and suppression from both official and bourgeois circles and was once labeled as an act of proletarian social revolution. Realism gave rise to Impressionism and Naturalism, indirectly influencing Symbolism, and directly evolved into the fin-de-siècle movement and surrealism. It is the source of Western modern art concepts and various formal schools.
