Features: Fable is an important literary form. Its distinctive feature is to convey through stories, which means using a specific and vivid short story with artistic methods such as metaphor, personification, and symbolism to elucidate profound philosophy. This philosophy is derived from the beneficial experience or lessons summarized from life. Unlike novels and fairy tales, the plot of a fable is often simple, its length is relatively short, and its language is highly concise. To help students study the classic fables from ancient and modern China and abroad more effectively and comprehensively, we have compiled this manual. This book selects classic fable stories from ancient China from the pre-Qin period to the Qing Dynasty, as well as fable works by influential modern and contemporary Chinese fable writers. It also includes some classic foreign fables, such as the Fables of Aesop from ancient Greece, the Fables of La Fontaine from France, and the Fables of Krylov from Russia. It can be said that with this book in hand, one can get a glimpse of the essence of fables from China and abroad. To facilitate self-study, the book includes sections such as "Source," "Understanding," and "Reflection" after each fable. For fables with sources, the origins are indicated, and the original texts are included. The meaning of each fable is also explained. Of course, these explanations are for reference only, and students are encouraged to have their own understanding and reflections during the learning process.
