Features: The 7th Congress of the Chinese Legal History Society was held from November 16 to 18, 2003, at Shandong University. Over one hundred Chinese legal historians from various universities and research institutions gathered in Jinan, centering on the theme "Legal Changes and Social Progress in Chinese History" for academic discussions. A total of more than 50 academic papers were submitted to the conference, and more than ten representatives delivered papers or made speeches, with some viewpoints sparking discussions among the attendees. These papers and speeches covered all fields of legal history research, with participants engaging in lively and harmonious exchanges. The re-election also achieved success, and the conference also made arrangements regarding strengthening communication and cooperation among members, building an academic exchange website, exploring teaching and talent development models in legal history, and international exchanges.
This collection of essays was compiled and published by the School of Law at Shandong University based on the academic papers submitted by the conference attendees, in accordance with the working system and arrangements of the Chinese Legal History Society. During the editing process, a few papers were excluded due to technical issues with the original manuscripts, at the publisher's suggestion. However, the submitted papers of the attendees were generally included in full during editing and arranged approximately according to the nature of their topics and chronological order of the historical periods discussed.
