It then focuses on introducing Wang Jiahua's Confucian Culture and the Modernization of Japan, Bella's Tokugawa Religion: Origins of Modern Japanese Culture, Lee Kuan Yew's Asian Values, Perspectives on the East Asian "Miracle" and a review of "Asian Values," Luo Rongqu's East Asian modernization studies, Korea's modernization, and Jin Yaoji's From Tradition to Modernity.
Chapter 2 discusses East Asian history and politics, introducing the characteristics and values of East Asian societies. It highlights Takahashi Masao's Modern History of East Asia and explores the features, causes, role, historical limitations, and development trends of East Asian authoritarianism.
Chapter 3 discusses the East Asian financial crisis and the East Asian miracle, analyzing the causes, characteristics, lessons, and impacts of the 1997 East Asian financial crisis. It focuses on Chen Wenhong et al.'s Where Will East Asia's Economy Be in 1998?, and on the East Asian miracle, it introduces the World Bank's research report The East Asian Miracle: Economic Growth and Public Policy. Regarding the topic of East Asia's "threat," it selectively introduces Hofheinz and Kordel's The East Asian Tiger.
Chapter 4 discusses the East Asian model. Through analysis, it summarizes 19 different expressions of the East Asian model, as well as its characteristics, content, and debates among different schools of thought. It highlights Chen Fengjun's research on the East Asian model and introduces Li Xiao's theory of the Chinese government model.
Chapter 5 discusses East Asia in the world, analyzing the characteristics of international relations in the East Asian region and major-country relations, as well as development trends. It primarily introduces China-Japan relations. Regional issues mainly cover the origins, current status, and development trends of the Korean Peninsula issue.
