Author: (Japanese) Hirayama Tetsu / Dai Qin
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2005-03-01
Features: The Story of Mathematics from East and West is a popular science book that combines mathematical history, anecdotes, games, interesting graphics, and computational problems. It selects more than 300 classic problems from mathematical history documents of ancient China, the West, India, Japan, and other countries. It also compares similar problems from different countries and attempts to verify related issues. This book is a valuable resource for mathematical education and the study of the history of mathematics. However, due to the limitations of the authors' historical conditions, there are some errors in the original text regarding certain eras and viewpoints, which have been corrected in the translation. While it is possible to trace and examine the classical Chinese and Japanese original texts, it has not been fully achieved for Western problems. Despite this, a wealth of materials has been collected as much as possible. If this humble work can become a new reference for mathematical education in our country, it would be particularly fortunate.
