Features: The Galileo Navigation Satellite System was initiated by the European Community, aiming to establish a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) operated, managed, and controlled by the European Union. Its overall design concept has four major characteristics: being an independent system, being compatible with other global navigation satellite systems, possessing advanced and competitive capabilities, and conducting open international cooperation. Compared to the currently widely used U.S. global system, the Galileo Navigation Satellite System will be more advanced, effective, and reliable. The European Union officially launched the "Galileo Program" on March 26, 2002. This not only marked Europe's full entry into the stage of building an independent civilian GNSS but also will have a profound impact on global information technology, economy, and politics. Given that there are currently no comprehensive works on the Galileo Navigation Satellite System in China and few relevant reference materials, based on participation in the soft project "Research on Countermeasures for China's Participation in the European Galileo Program" under the Ministry of Science and Technology, this book comprehensively summarizes the progress and implementation of the Galileo Program, the system architecture, working principles, industrial applications, and the current status of international cooperation. It is hoped that this book will provide a reference for management personnel and technical staff in relevant departments, as well as for scientific and technological workers engaged in space information technology research and development, and for faculty and students in universities and colleges to gain a more comprehensive understanding and study of the Galileo system.
