Perhaps, this book can offer a unique interpretation of the vast and ambiguous concept of culture, its extensive and boundless scope, which dares not to be spoken by the brave, nor to be discussed by those without deep thought and broad scholarship. During the War of Resistance against Japan, Professor Chen Xujing pioneered the course of "Cultural Studies" at Southwest Associated University, introducing the concept and systematic study of "Cultural Studies" into university classrooms in China. The "Outline of Cultural Studies," written by Professor Chen based on his lecture notes, is the foundational work of cultural studies research in Chinese culture. The book is divided into four volumes, each containing two parts, comprehensively exploring the relationship between cultural studies and disciplines such as anthropology, sociology, economics, political science, philosophy, psychology, and physiology, and constructing the theoretical framework of cultural studies from the perspective of discipline development. The book incorporates a large amount of cultural studies research materials collected by the author during his studies abroad, citing extensively and integrating Eastern and Western perspectives. From this, one can also glimpse the author's main viewpoints on the study of Eastern and Western cultures, as well as Southern and Northern cultures. Some of these viewpoints still hold certain theoretical value today, making this book an ideal starting point for those studying and researching cultural studies.
