Features: In various advanced English exams, reading comprehension is a common type of question that tests candidates' ability to obtain written language information. In the National College English Test Band 4 (CET-4), reading comprehension is also the part with the most weight and the largest number of questions. Moreover, the reading passages are complex and cover both literature and science, making it difficult for candidates to improve their reading skills. College English Classification Reading 200 Passages is specifically designed to address this challenge and strictly follows the requirements of the College English Test Band 4 Syllabus. To help candidates prepare effectively for the exam and achieve their best performance, this book selects 200 reading comprehension passages in the format of the CET-4 sample questions, categorizes them by subject, and designs 20 learning units. Each unit consists of 6 to 15 passages, with each passage containing approximately 250–350 words. The difficulty level of the passages is similar to that of the reading comprehension section in the CET-4. Through training, candidates can familiarize themselves with and understand vocabulary from various disciplines, thereby achieving the goal of intensive training. This book has the following main features:
1. Strong targeting: Candidates can choose key units for practice based on their weak areas or their major.
2. Gradual progression: Each exercise in this book is arranged from simple to complex, with vocabulary and question difficulty increasing progressively, making it highly readable.
3. Broad coverage and diverse genres: It includes narrative, expository, and argumentative texts; content covers humanities, geography, medicine, science and technology, business and trade, daily life knowledge, society, culture and education, biographies, and customs of English-speaking countries. Candidates can gradually master various types of knowledge while practicing.
4. Strong consolidation: Categorized reading helps accumulate and apply vocabulary related to the same subject, and extensive reading is an important method for consolidating learned vocabulary.
This book aims to improve candidates' reading skills and help them, through progressive training, correctly understand moderately difficult, general-topic articles. During the reading process, candidates must grasp the main idea of the passage, identify the facts and details that support it, and make certain inferences, analyses, and judgments based on the material to understand the author's perspective and attitude. The reading speed should reach 70 words per minute. When reading longer passages with slightly lower difficulty and no more than 3% unfamiliar words, candidates should be able to correctly understand the main idea, grasp key facts and relevant details, with a reading speed of 100 words per minute. The language materials in this book are common in English exams, and answers are provided at the back for self-assessment by students in various institutions, as well as for reference by English professionals and self-learners.
