Features: The 20th century was a very important century for both capitalism and socialism. For capitalism, the first half of the century experienced various hardships, almost confirming the judgment of its short lifespan. The second half gradually entered a relatively stable period with significant development. This transformation was so profound and astonishing that even some great politicians and theorists made judgment errors. Deeply understanding the underlying reasons for this change holds immense practical and theoretical significance for formulating our international strategy and domestic and foreign policies. As for socialism, the situation was different from capitalism. In the first half of the 20th century, it achieved great success, demonstrating diverse vitality. However, in the second half, due to unclear understanding of what socialism is, how to build socialism, what kind of party should be built, and how to build it, as well as inappropriate measures, many serious mistakes occurred. These mistakes reached an extremely severe level in the former Soviet Eastern countries, leading to regime loss, state dissolution, party name changes, and people's disintegration. World socialism fell into an unprecedented low ebb. Fortunately, under the guidance of Deng Xiaoping Theory and the Important Thought of Three Represents, China took the path of reform and achieved significant success, bringing a new dawn of hope to the low ebb of world socialism. This confirms the principle: socialism is a good system, the key lies in how to understand and develop it. It is essential to deeply explore the lessons of the rise and fall of socialism, summarize the innovative laws of Marxism, the governance laws of communists, and the survival and development laws of socialism. This is an era-related task that requires the efforts of several generations. This book, guided by Comrade Jiang Zemin's proposed "Four How-to-Understand" issues, briefly introduces and analyzes the changes and reasons of capitalism and socialism in the 20th century, striving to contribute to the correct answers to these major issues.
