Features: The book "Comprehensive Competitiveness Research on Urban Vegetable Industry" explores two aspects in a beneficial way: on the one hand, it comprehensively elaborates the theoretical basis of industrial comprehensive competitiveness; on the other hand, it proposes practical countermeasures and suggestions for enhancing the comprehensive competitiveness of China's urban vegetable industry through empirical research. Its purpose is to recognize the trend of China's large and medium-sized city vegetable industry shifting from quantitative development to qualitative development, and from tariff protection-based development to free and open development. Under the conditions of utilizing advantages of both domestic and international resources, and leveraging the two potential markets at home and abroad, it aims to take effective measures to enable the vegetable industry in large and medium-sized cities to fully leverage its industry competitiveness in domestic opportunities and enhance its international competitiveness in the face of global challenges. The overall framework of the book is based on Porter's theory of industrial international competitiveness and employs methods such as comparative analysis, factor analysis, and empirical analysis. By establishing a theoretical analysis framework, evaluation system, and analytical model for the comprehensive competitiveness of the urban vegetable industry, it focuses on the factors influencing and determining the enhancement of this competitiveness. Combining the actual development of urban vegetable industries and products in China, it applies an indicator evaluation system and analytical model to conduct a comprehensive, systematic, and detailed quantitative analysis and evaluation of the factors affecting and determining the competitiveness of vegetable products and industries in China's large and medium-sized cities, thereby proposing development strategies for the urban vegetable industry and countermeasures to enhance its competitiveness. The book's features are specifically reflected in the following aspects:
First, there is innovation in research perspective and methodology. The author establishes a competitiveness determination model and qualitative evaluation system for the coloration of vegetable products in China's large and medium-sized cities. Additionally, the book provides an in-depth analysis of the profound reasons behind the insufficient comprehensive competitiveness of vegetable industries in major cities across the country, as well as in Shanghai in recent years, offering a fundamental theoretical tool for the study of agricultural and agricultural product competitiveness.
Second, there is innovation in research content. The author adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis methods to conduct a systematic and comprehensive empirical study of urban vegetable product and industry competitiveness. In particular, the research on the price and cost, as well as market demand conditions of vegetable products in Shanghai, is detailed and rich in content, demonstrating uniqueness and novelty.
Third, there is innovation in the selection of strategies to enhance the comprehensive competitiveness of the vegetable industry. The author, based on the "short-board" effect of vegetable industry development and the principle of "doing what you can and avoiding what you cannot," focuses on the rational allocation of various production elements in cities to propose strategies such as "strengthening," "leveraging strengths," "borrowing ideas," and "avoiding weaknesses" to selectively enhance the comprehensive competitiveness of urban vegetable industries. At the same time, the book introduces new concepts such as the "go global" strategy, the philosophy of modern industrial enterprises, the agricultural product ID system, and industrial chain management into the research on enhancing urban vegetable industry competitiveness, proposing countermeasures that are both targeted and actionable.
The book is based on Porter's theory of industrial international competitiveness, consumer behavior, and other theoretical foundations, with the main focus on researching the factors influencing and determining vegetable industry competitiveness. It combines the actual development of urban vegetable products and industries in China and employs methods such as comparative analysis, factor analysis, empirical analysis, and case studies. Taking Shanghai as an example, through a comparative analysis of comprehensive and typical surveys, as well as a comparison of the current situations and issues in China and abroad, it conducts a SWOT analysis to propose strategic and countermeasures for enhancing the comprehensive competitiveness of vegetable industries in China's large and medium-sized cities.
The book is divided into two parts—theory and empirical research—with a total of seven chapters. First, it reviews the economics and management theories closely related to competitiveness issues. Based on extensive reading of Chinese, English, and Japanese literature, it summarizes the current state of empirical research on agricultural and agricultural product competitiveness both domestically and internationally, proposes a definition of comprehensive vegetable industry competitiveness, and clarifies relevant concepts. On this basis, it highlights the significant practical importance of researching the comprehensive competitiveness of vegetable industries in China's large and medium-sized cities.
The book constructs a competitiveness evaluation system for vegetable products based on factors such as market share and profitability in specific markets. It conducts an international comparative study of indicators such as international market share, revealed comparative advantage index, and trade competition index. At the same time, based on Porter's theory of industrial international competitiveness, it constructs an empirical analysis framework for the comprehensive competitiveness of vegetable industries in China's large and medium-sized cities, analyzing in depth the role and impact of various factors on vegetable industry competitiveness.
By applying methods such as the analytic hierarchy process, comprehensive index method, and artificial neural networks, the book conducts a horizontal and vertical evaluation and comparative analysis of the competitiveness levels and changes in vegetable industries in 12 large and medium-sized cities in China, as well as in Shanghai in recent years.
Building on the above research, the book conducts an empirical analysis of the competitiveness of urban vegetable products (taking Shanghai as an example) around factors such as price, cost, quality, safety, marketing, and branding. It reveals the cost position, price competitiveness status, and reasons for changes in Shanghai's vegetable products through detailed data and case studies. It also evaluates the shortcomings in price and non-price competitiveness of urban vegetable products and their impact on product competitiveness.
Finally, the book applies the SWOT strategic analysis method to analyze the comprehensive competitiveness of vegetable industries in China's large and medium-sized cities and proposes corresponding countermeasures. The research concludes that the development of urban vegetable industries presents both favorable opportunities and severe challenges. Therefore, it is necessary to align with the functional positioning of urban agribusiness, leverage comprehensive advantages such as the market, technology, information, and geography, and adopt a strategy of "doing what you can and avoiding what you cannot," leveraging strengths while avoiding weaknesses. This includes achieving vertical division and differentiated competition, building new strategic heights, cultivating new growth points, elevating industry standards, strengthening industry linkage, and constructing new models for the production and sales of urban vegetable products.
