Features: The field of teaching Chinese as a second language has always placed significant emphasis on the teaching of special grammatical formats. However, on one hand, research findings in linguistics on Chinese special grammatical formats have not been adequately absorbed and effectively utilized by the teaching field of Chinese as a second language. The relationship between written and spoken Chinese is quite different from that in other languages due to the use of logogrammic characters, which combine sound, form, and meaning. The relative independence of written and spoken Chinese is high, often resulting in inconsistency between spoken and written forms, with considerable irregularities in rules. This is another characteristic of the Chinese language. This linguistic fact requires different teaching strategies in language instruction.
Previous teaching and research in Chinese as a second language have focused more on spoken language, with insufficient understanding of the patterns of written language and its teaching strategies. The author of this book has keenly noticed this issue and conducted in-depth research on how to adapt classroom teaching, especially for spoken language classes and news listening classes, based on the characteristics of written language. She has proposed many valuable insights.
