Publish Date: 2000-10-01
Features: This book is divided into three parts, with a total of 14 chapters. The current revised edition maintains the three-part structure unchanged, but adds one new chapter to each of the first two parts. Specifically, the first part discusses Western sociologists and their theoretical views during the emergence and formation of sociology. This section introduces sociologists from France, the United Kingdom, and Germany, but due to the circumstances at the time, Pareto's sociological theories from Italy were not included. The revised edition adds a chapter on Pareto's general sociological thought, which is now Chapter 7. Currently, there is an increasing amount of material on Pareto, but it can feel somewhat disorganized. This book arranges the content according to the established format, making Pareto's unique ideas more focused and prominent. In the second part of the book, the development of American sociology since the 20th century, a chapter on the comprehensive development trend of Western sociological theories since the late 1980s has been added, now Chapter 15. Additionally, the appendix from the previous edition—Modern Theories of Sociology—has been revised into a chapter and placed in the second part, now Chapter 14. In the third part, post-World War II Marxist sociology, due to fundamental changes in these countries, Chapter 16 is titled "The Development Process and Characteristics of Former Yugoslav Society." Chapter 17 is also titled "Former Yugoslav Sociology," with the mention of sociology in European countries removed along with related content. To explain the general state of Russian sociology after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, new content has been added to the appendix.
