Features: Ancient Chinese literature is an ancient discipline. It takes the responsibility of organizing and excavating the national literary heritage, just like history, philosophy, and other disciplines, it has always survived in the between tradition and modernity. It acts as the lubricant between these two gears, thin and fragile, but it maintains the and operation of the two. In this process, it has been squeezed and also achieved self-renewal. The faculty team of Ancient Chinese Literature at Tsinghua University is a new collective in this sense. Behind it, there is a glorious history—outstanding scholars such as Wang Guowei, Liang Qichao, Zhao Yuanren, Chen Yinque, Wen Yiduo, and Zhu Ziqing once taught here for a long time. But that was the past. From the college reorganization in 1952 to the rebirth of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature in 1985, the discipline's tradition was almost broken for decades. Now, after arduous development, this discipline has finally gathered 12 members—9 doctors and 3 masters from universities in Beijing, Nanjing, Shanghai, Yangzhou, Xi'an, Wuhan, Tokyo, Kyoto, and other places. Facing the ever-changing Chinese academia, it hopes to make contributions, so it reviewed its team and compiled this collection of essays.
