Features: The community is a microcosm of society. The community is the cell of the city, and the cornerstone of governance. We have launched a series of books reflecting the development model of Chinese communities. This is a set of empirical analysis and typical examples centered on the community development of Chaoyang District, Beijing. The community is another expression of urban civilization. The community can be seen as a story, a diagram reflecting social relationships, a space where the whole is scattered yet coexists, a materialized domain, a spiritual homeland, or a field full of contradictions. These metaphors contain countless connotations: historical continuity, cultural inheritance, changes in interpretation, and human value orientation. And these cultural symbols and symbolic meanings of "connotation" will all be expressed through the community model.
After the per capita GDP breaks the $1,000 mark, China's economic structure undergoes significant changes, consumption structure rapidly upgrades, social structure becomes complex and dynamic, and the strategic importance of community construction becomes increasingly prominent. China is entering a new era of comprehensive urban construction and community development. Learning-oriented communities, service-oriented communities, culture-oriented communities, eco-oriented communities, digital-oriented communities, and safety-oriented communities will become the inevitable choices for community development in this era.
This series consists of six volumes. Each volume includes basic concepts, creation models, and the practical creation of Chaoyang District in Beijing. It is not only a combination of theory and practice but also a unity of norms and empirical evidence. In each model, we strive to present concise language, clear perspectives, vivid examples, and actionable working proposals. At the same time, we have used many photographs, charts, and sidebars from the development history of Chaoyang District, providing a clearer understanding of the viewpoints expressed in the book from another angle.
Our goal is simple: to present to you a set of books that are both useful and visually appealing. The 21st century is the century of cities. Paying attention to cities is paying attention to our future. Let's start by focusing on the community.
