In our plaster sculpture tutorials, we focus on rationally analyzing the modeling, light and shadow, perspective, structure, and other aspects of the objects. I say this not to imply that the purpose of painting is to imitate nature entirely, but rather that painting must express emotions through the expression of nature, which is equally important in basic courses. Painting is a language, and the process of painting is the artist expressing what he sees and finds interesting through lines, shading, or color. This means that painting is selective. In fact, all art is selective. All flat paintings are merely an illusion of resemblance to the object. Because only the height and width of painting are real, the depth is fake, an illusion achieved through painting techniques to create a visual illusion. This painting technique is painting language. Learning painting language starts with studying and mastering painting principles. In this book, I have chosen various lighting conditions and used plaster sketches with different modeling characteristics and styles as examples for visible, intuitive analysis. During the appreciation process, we incorporate painting principles to explain the techniques and principles the author used to achieve a certain effect. When analyzing a specific painting, we focus on certain aspects rather than mixing all the issues together. This approach is more helpful for solving problems and learning knowledge. In this book, several works by the same artist may be similar in technique and style, but the appreciation process and analysis content will be the same. The author will focus on specific aspects of analysis based on the artist's aesthetic tendencies and focal points in a particular painting, which will be inspiring for beginners to learn and practice with a focus during their exercises.
