Features: This book is intended for senior undergraduate and graduate students in the Accounting Department of Renmin University of China, but it also serves as a reference for professionals in practical working departments who are interested in researching accounting issues. The content of advanced accounting studies and its relationship with intermediate accounting are, in our view, primarily about addressing the extension of accounting. We summarize this relationship with the phrase "filling gaps and expanding horizons."
The term "filling gaps and expanding horizons" refers to the fact that advanced accounting primarily studies issues that intermediate accounting has not covered. Generally, topics already discussed in intermediate accounting do not fall under the scope of advanced accounting.
The phrase "expanding horizons" has two meanings:
1. It refers to some issues in intermediate accounting that are briefly mentioned but not thoroughly or comprehensively discussed because they do not pertain to its core content. These can be further explored in advanced accounting, where the discussion builds upon and deepens the content of intermediate accounting, rather than simply repeating the original issues. In other words, advanced accounting should provide students with new knowledge.
2. It refers to newly emerging issues in accounting practice that require theoretical explanation due to economic development and environmental changes. These issues are innovative and thus have many distinctive characteristics, such as unstandardized business practices, the lack of precedents for handling methods, the inability of traditional theories and methods to address them, and operational trajectories influenced by numerous uncertain factors. To tackle such issues requires a pioneering spirit, exploration of special approaches within broader fields and entirely new foundations. This book attempts to explore some of these issues, but whether they are feasible depends on practical experience.
This book is intended for senior undergraduate and graduate students in our Accounting Department, but it also serves as a reference for professionals in practical working departments who are interested in researching accounting issues.
