Author: Zhang Jingwei (Compiler)

Publishing Date: 2004-09-01
Features: During the War of Liberation, musicians engaged in corresponding theoretical research work in both the Guomindang-controlled areas and the liberated areas. Among them, the Research Institute of the Chinese Conservatory of Music possessed strong research capabilities, achieving remarkable results in music history and traditional music studies. In terms of musical techniques, some exploration was also conducted. The theoretical research in the liberated areas focused on folk music studies, discussions on the issue of nationalization, research on revolutionary musicians such as Nie Er and Xian Xinghai, and the study of revolutionary musical traditions. Theoretical researchers from both sides worked together to strive for the great development of music theory in the People's Republic. This book broadly reflects the general outline of the development of music theory construction mentioned above. For students of professional musicology, it is a minimum reading material, and can also serve as a reference for researchers. General music students can select certain important chapters to enrich their theoretical knowledge and cultivation. This revised edition of the book has added a few additional chapters. As it is a selected compilation of historical documents, the translations of foreign names in the text differ from current usage, but to maintain the original form, no modifications have been made. Some words, terms, and punctuation that differ from current usage are based on the original historical documents and have not been altered. The chapters in this book are arranged in chronological order, and multiple articles by the same author are relatively grouped together.
