This series is organized by the Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads and is a research outcome of the Beijing Step-by-Step Quality Education Research Institute. Since its publication by the Olympic Press, it has stood out uniquely and is deeply loved by teachers, parents, and students. After significant revisions, re-editions, or complete rewrites, it has been renamed as "Gold Medal Olympiad" and "Gold Medal School" series and is now re-published and distributed by Jinghua Publishing House. On this occasion of the re-publication, sincere thanks are extended to millions of readers across the country.
Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads (abbreviated as "Subject Olympiads") are the most extensive, widely participated in, and influential subject competition activities for primary and secondary school students in China. Subject Olympiads are derived from the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), the International Physics Olympiad (IPHO), the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO), and other internationally influential secondary school subject competitions that attract millions of young students every year. The reason for such widespread attention lies in the strong innovation, flexibility, and comprehensiveness of Olympiads, as well as their focus on cultivating students' exploration skills and inspiring their innovative awareness—qualities that are at the core of quality education. This is also the need for future development.
Based on years of careful study of this activity both domestically and internationally, as well as a large number of outstanding books in this category, the Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads has invited outstanding educators dedicated to this field from across the country to compile and publish a series of "Gold Medal Olympiad" and "Gold Medal School" books covering seven subjects—mathematics, Chinese, English, physics, chemistry, biology, and information—with over 200 varieties. In terms of the variety, quantity, and quality of our Olympiad books, they are considered the most influential in their field both domestically and internationally and are the most appealing to primary and secondary school teachers and students.
The purpose and characteristics of the "Gold Medal Olympiad" and "Gold Medal School" series are as follows:
High: Derived from textbooks but exceeding them. Derived from textbooks means it is written in accordance with the latest [curriculum standards] of the Ministry of Education, while exceeding textbooks means it closely aligns with competition syllabi at all levels, ensuring comprehensive alignment in content, question types, and skill requirements, thereby fostering interest, developing intelligence, and enhancing abilities.
Accurate: Scientifically precise and structurally sound. Each book is designed according to the characteristics of the subject, scientifically organized, and follows a progressive approach, providing in-depth yet accessible analysis and detailed problem-solving methods.
Innovative: The questions are novel, unique, and engaging. They gather the essence of recent Olympiad, middle school, and high school exam questions from both China and abroad, representing the highest level of current Olympiads and reflecting new concepts in curriculum reform, as well as new ideas, methods, and trends in competition question-setting.
Refined: Selected examples are challenging yet logical, flexible, and achievable. The focus is on generalizing from specific examples and applying knowledge to different contexts; it emphasizes multi-solution, multi-variable, and multi-question approaches, prioritizing the training of thinking skills over rote memorization, making learning an interest and hobby.
Renowned: Gathered by famous teachers and compiled from famous competitions. The Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads has invited renowned professors from top universities, distinguished teachers from key secondary schools, senior teachers, subject leaders, and famous Olympiad gold medal coaches to co-author these books.
