Features: This textbook is designed for senior undergraduate students of German Language and Literature at universities. Some of the selected texts are challenging in difficulty, with the aim of exposing students to such materials before they graduate, preparing them for encountering similar or even more difficult texts in their future careers. At the same time, the book also includes exemplary texts to help students absorb rich linguistic nutrients. To achieve this purpose, the book features a significant number of literary essays, as high-quality literary works generally excel in accuracy, vividness, and conciseness compared to ordinary texts. Learning language through literary works has always been a proven and effective approach. Naturally, the book also includes some non-literary essays, as well as articles by classical Marxist writers. Texts from the 18th and 19th centuries are also included in moderation, but the focus is primarily on modern German language of the 20th century.
